Scoutmaster

Job Description:
The Scoutmaster is the adult leader of the troop and is dedicated to bringing learning, adventure, and opportunity to the Scouts within the troop. The Scoutmaster attends most troop meetings and goes on most hikes and camping trips. The Senior Patrol Leader and other troop leaders look to the Scoutmaster for advice and direction.

Qualification:
An Scoutmaster must be at least 21 years of age and approved by the Troop Committee Chairman and the Charter Organization Representative. Adults who are not citizens of the United States but who reside within the country may register with the Boy Scouts of America in any capacity if they agree to abide by the Scout Oath or Promise and the Scout Law, to respect and obey the laws of the United States of America, and to subscribe to the Declaration of Religious Principle.

The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God and, therefore, recognizes the religious element in the training of the member, but is absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward that religious training. The Boy Scouts of America’s policy is that the home and the organization or group with which the member is connected shall give definite attention to religious life. Only persons willing to subscribe to the Declaration of Religious Principle and to the Bylaws of the Boy Scouts of America shall be entitled to certificates of leadership.

Job Obligations:

1. Work with the Chartered Organization Representative, Troop Committee Chair, and other Scout leaders to ensure that the troop is run in accordance with the policies of the Boy Scouts of America and the chartered organization.
2. Guide the Senior Patrol Leader in planning for and conducting meetings, campouts, and other troop activities.
3. Recruit other adults as leaders to assist with the organization and supervision of the troop.
4. Attend position-specific training and actively encourage the other adult leaders as well as the youth leaders to attend position-specific training.
5. Conduct regular Junior Leader Training sessions.
6. Has sole responsibility to sign off for the Scout Spirit requirement for each rank. This signature will be given when the Scout has met the guidelines as set forth by the BSA and the Troop Committee.
7. Wear full uniform to every troop meeting and activity, where a uniform is required.
8. Be a good role model for the Scouts in the troop, and live by the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan.
9. Be a registered Adult Leader or Member of Committee and be Youth Protection Trained.
