No one can pass through life, any more than he can pass through a bit of country, without leaving tracks behind, and those tracks may often be helpful to those coming after him in finding their way.

As we count down the minutes to summer camp and scramble to get everything packed and ready to go, I thought it would be helpful to provide pointers to all of the summer camp information that the Council has posted.

We will be camping out this weekend in the mountains of Bedford County, VA. Saturday afternoon, we will host our annual Scout-o-Rama, where prospective scouts can visit us on a real, working campout. We'll have fun and games, as well as information and a chance to talk to the Troop leaders about joining our Troop.

Details of the campout, as well as maps and directions are inside. Registration is required for access.

If you are a prospective scout, you can call our Scoutmaster, Chuck Hurt, at (434) 384-4349.

BSA National News
A significant part of the country is currently under fire bans that prevent the use of open flames outdoors. Some of these bans have been in effect more than six months and are preventing Scouts from completing Tenderfoot requirement 3 and Second Class requirements 2e, 2f, and 2g.

The National Advancement Committee has approved the substitution, during periods of fire bans only of the use of a cook stove or, when no outdoor cooking is allowed, completion of these requirements over a kitchen stove. Please appreciate the importance of these exceptions to Scouts and leaders currently working on these requirements. These substitutions are allowed only during periods of fire bans.
